City Attorney
Ron Dirickson

The duties of the City Attorney are to advise city staff and the City Council in a variety of legal issues ranging from contract matters to ordinance development and enforcement. Additional duties include representing the City in court in civil matters and prosecuting municipal ordinance violations in municipal court.

Due to rapid growth in the Republic area the City determined to employee a fulltime attorney to assist in addressing legal issues that are generated with the growth. Mr. Dirickson entered into employment with the City of Republic in June of 2005. Prior to becoming part to the staff for the City of Republic, he was an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Springfield, Missouri, for 10 years working as the Chief Prosecuting Attorney and also in the civil division of the City Attorney’s office representing assigned departments.

Prior to employment with the City of Springfield, he practiced in the private sector for 12 years in Oklahoma with a firm representing a number of cities and towns and served as an Assistant District Attorney of Caddo County, OK, for 3 years. He was a board member of the Oklahoma Municipal Attorney’s Association representing small community prosecutors on the board. He is currently a member of the Missouri Municipal Attorneys Association.

Mr. Dirickson has taught at the Springfield Police Academy presenting prosecution issues faced in municipal court and has conducted training for Springfield code enforcement personnel regarding how to present a case for prosecution or for administrative hearing. He has been a speaker at an OMAA conference speaking on prosecution issues and has spoken at a Missouri Milk, Food and Environmental Health Association conference regarding administrative enforcement issues for health inspectors.

He is a graduate of Southwestern State College, Weatherford, OK, with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Business Administration and graduated from the Oklahoma University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate Degree.

He is a member of Optimist International and is currently a member of the Sunrise Club in Springfield. He has recently completed Class XX of Leadership Springfield.

He is married to Pamela who works for the neonatal doctors at Cox Health System in their office. They are members of the Second Baptist Church in Springfield. They have two children, Melissa, an international flight attendant for Continental Airlines, and Brandon, a student at Missouri State University, and a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
