Payroll Information


Employees are paid on a Grade and Step schedule based on the job description for
their position with the City.  Payroll is processed bi-weekly and paid through direct
deposit.


Full-Time Employee Benefits

  • Ten paid holidays and three personal/floating holidays are offered per year for non-fire and non-police employees.
  • Vacation and Sick time accrues monthly and can be used after the probationary period. Police and Fire employees accrue vacation time at a higher rate in lieu of paid holidays.
  • Medical insurance is provided through Premier Health and is effective after 30 days of employment. Spouse and dependent coverage is also available.
  • Dental insurance is provided through Delta Dental and is effective after 30 days of employment. Spouse and dependent coverage is also available.
  • Life Insurance in the amount of $100,000 is provided on each employee through Kansas City Life.
  • Retirement program through ICMA Retirement Corporation is available with employee having the opportunity to begin contribution with the first full paycheck and a City contribution/match to a 401K after the probationary period.
  • Cafeteria Plan is available using pre-tax dollars to cover insurance premiums and reimbursement for medical expenses and/or childcare.
  • Tuition Reimbursement is offered for courses related directly to the employee’s immediate job or field with certain qualifying stipulations. For further information on this program the employee should contact their department supervisor.

All newly hired City employees will participate in an orientation process through the Payroll department on their first day of employment.
