Housing

In 2010, the City of Republic contained over 4,800 single-family homes to house many of its residents, a figure that is expected to double over the next 10 years.

In 2010, the city issued 88 residential building permits to construct over 100 total housing units.  The total valuation of residential building in 2010 exceeded $10.6 million.

Schools

Republic's R-III school system took occupancy of the new high school for the spring 2010 session. The new Republic High School is located at the Southeast corner of State Highway ZZ and West State Highway M (Republic Rd.) and is approximately 250,000 sq ft in size. The structure houses around 1,300 -1,400 students and has capacity for future expansion to 2,000 students. The site also comprises track, softball, baseball, and soccer fields for extra-curricular student activities.

In 2007, the R-III school district produced a graduation rate 7 percent higher than the state average at 92.7 percent and had a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1.  Four out of every five Republic High School graduates went on to further studies at a college or university.

Recreation

The city boasts over 140 acres in recreational parks for citizens.  The city’s Community Center provides year-round recreational opportunities to residents of all ages and interests, including seasonal athletic leagues in several recreational sports.  The Republic Aquatic Center stands as one of the most-exciting recreational attractions in the region and home to the area’s first surfing simulator, “The Huna.”

Employment

In 2005, the city consolidated the former Village of Brookline into its city limits, absorbing nearly 4.57 square miles of land primed for commercial and industrial development.  The area is easily accessible to residents, yet ideally removed from the city’s residential districts, posing no threat to the city’s aesthetic and recreational value.  A major hub of transportation, both rail and interstate highways converge with $11 million of newly placed city infrastructure to establish a mainstay of commercial productivity.

With US Highway 60 cutting a swath of prime retail opportunities across the center of the city and the addition of coveted industrial prospects to the northeast, hundreds of new jobs and career opportunities will be created over the next decade to fortify a productive and satisfied community.

Quality of Life

The 2011 Citizen Survey results paint a very positive picture of the Republic quality of life.  For nearly a decade, over 90 percent of citizens have rated the city’s overall quality of life as very good.  An anomaly among other municipalities in the area, Republic’s high scores on overall quality of life have persisted through rough economic times.

Located just 10 minutes outside of Springfield, the City of Republic provides a quaint small-town atmosphere just a short drive from major metropolitan amenities.

The city’s vision for generational community edification centers on a plan for economic maturity to nourish and support desirable residential growth in the future.  The establishment of a productive citizenry is the foundation of a virtuous and honorable community.  In the City of Republic, the best is always yet to come!
