Citizen Police Academy PDF Print E-mail

The Citizen’s Police Academy provides community members with an inside look at local law enforcement. While attending the academy, students will be introduced to a variety of topics as part of the curriculum.

The academy is designed to give community members an overview of the police department’s function and operational procedures.  The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to a traditional police academy.

Academy classes are taught mostly by police officers.  Participants will have the opportunity to meet the Chief of Police and staff members, and are encouraged to ask questions and express ideas.  The goal is to strengthen the relationship with our community by giving our citizens a better understanding of police department operations, and how we can work together.

The curriculum will consist of topics such as:
- Patrol Procedures
- Traffic/DUI Investigations
- Use of Force
- Criminal Investigations
- 911 Center/Communications
- Crime Scene Investigation
- Special Operations
- Identity Theft
- Many Related Topics

The Citizen Police Academy participants are selected by the Chief of Police through an application process. Applications can be obtained at the Police Department or by following the link below. Potential candidates for the Citizen Police Academy must meet the following criteria:
- A minimum age of 18 years old
- Reside or work in the City of Republic
- No felony convictions
- No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application
- Any requirement may be waived or modified upon review and approval of the Chief of Police.

Explorers PDF Print E-mail

Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are at least 14 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.

Law Enforcement Explorer posts help youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

Explorers participate in training events, community events, and community service projects.  Explorers conduct fund raisers to pay for the post and cost of uniforms and equipment.  A seven dollar annual fee is required for participation in the Boy Scouts of America insurance program.
