Republic, MO – On Friday, September 30th, the Republic focused extra enforcement efforts on impaired driving by conducting a sobriety checkpoint. The checkpoint was held in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 60 at Farm Road 164.
During the checkpoint, 887 vehicles passed through the checkpoint resulting in four DWI arrests, one warrant arrest, one felony drug paraphernalia arrest, and sixteen summons for various traffic violations. The checkpoint was funded in full through a grant by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division. Impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities. In 2010, 207 people were killed and 831 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. The Republic Police Department encourages people to call 9-1-1 and report suspected drunk drivers. We are all part of the solution. For more information on impaired driving, visit www.saveMOlives.com
