Republic, MO –In May, the Republic Police Department entered the 2010 International Police Vehicle Design Contest, which "Law and Order" magazine, a trade publication for law enforcement agencies, sponsors every year.

The annual contest began more than twenty years ago, and in 2004, "Law and Order" magazine took the redevelopment of vehicle design to a new level with the introduction of marking guidelines. The guidelines turned a subjective method for marking and identifying police vehicles into a standardized system.

The Republic Police Department became involved in the contest this year for the first time because of positive feedback received from citizens on the look of our vehicles. The vehicles represent the police department, as well as, the community of Republic.
Republic was in the category for municipalities who employ ten to fifty police officers. The category had a total of thirty-three entries from police agencies across the nation. Sergeant Sells said the department received notice that they placed second overall in the contest, providing Republic with national attention in the law enforcement community.

The judges said, "This black and white has a neat, slick look. The rear of the vehicle is nice and well lit. The marking of the front bumper is a unique touch. With the badge, flag, and Police, this vehicle has got it all".

The department would like to say thank you to all the citizens who voted in the contest and their continued support.
