Annexation

Anyone wishing to have their property annexed into the City of Republic must complete and submit an Application for Annexation (PDF) to the City's Department of Community Development. A processing fee of $225 is charged for each application.

All properties annexed into the city are immediately classified as the zoning district most closely corresponding to the property's previous zoning classification.

Before submitting an application for annexation, the city requires that all applicants first schedule a meeting with the Community Development Department to discuss the proposed action. To schedule an appointment, please call the Community Development Office at 417-732-3150.

Step-by-Step Process Details


Step 1


Submit the following to upon request for annexation:
  • Voluntary Petition for Annexation with Notarized Affidavit
  • CD Containing Legal Description (in Microsoft Word)
  • Fees
    • Application: $225
    • Publication Cost: (Due upon invoice)
Checks should be made payable to the City of Republic, and submitted with your application.

Step 2


The Community Development Department will make arrangements to establish a date in which a Public Hearing is to be held on the proposed annexation.

Step 3


The Community Development Department will arrange for publication of the “Notice of a Public Hearing” in a local newspaper per requirement set in RSMo 89.050. This notice will indicate the date of the Public Hearing and will be published at least 7 days prior to the Public Hearing and at least 60 days from the date of said petition was filed. The applicant will be billed for the publication cost by the Newspaper.

Step 4


The City Council will hold a Public Hearing on the date indicated by the Resolution. The applicant and other interested persons may speak at this time in favor or against the proposed annexation.

Step 5


At the next regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council, a decision will be rendered to approve or disapprove the request for annexation. If the City Council does not approve the proposed annexation, then no further action will take place. If the vote is in favor of the proposed annexation, the ordinance will have a second reading at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting. If the vote is in favor, then the annexation ordinance is signed by the appropriate city officials and shall be in full force and effect from that day forward.
