City of Republic and Drury University’s Historic Partnership Comes to a Close

Yesterday the City of Republic marked the close of their game-changing partnership with Drury University.

Drury University trustee Bill Ricketts and general counsel Aaron Jones delivered the final reimbursement check for infrastructure improvements at the Garton Business Park.

“It was a privilege to work with Drury University on this project,” said David Cameron, Republic City Administrator.

In 2016 Drury and the City came together to create what would ultimately become a catalyst for growth, development, and employment for the region: Garton Business Park.

Drury received the land as part of a donation from the Garton family and wanted to honor that endowment through the development. To make the property more appealing to businesses, the City provided the necessary infrastructure, allowing Drury to reimburse those costs as the lots were sold.

“We all assumed some level of risk to make this happen. Having good partnerships, such as we did with Drury, is what made this possible,” Cameron said.

The risk was well-worth the reward, providing approximately $200 million in investments, and will bring nearly 2,000 jobs to the region when fully staffed.

“Drury has been a tremendous partner with a big vision. It is wonderful to see the full build out and investment into the community,” Andrew Nelson, City of Republic BUILDS Department Administrator, said.

The development is currently at full utilization, home to Mercy, Lew’s, Red Monkey, McLane, and Amazon.
