Bundle up and join us for the Reindeer Run 5K on Friday, December 4! The race will begin at 7:00 p.m. at J.R. Martin Park (300 E. Hines) in Republic. The out-and-back course will take runners down main street before leading them back to the park for hot cocoa, coffee, and snacks. Awards for division and overall winners will take place at The Amp at 8:00 p.m. Race fees are $25.00 per participant or $17.00 per participant with the donation of an unwrapped children’s gift. Seniors, mark you calendar to join us for Springfield Little Theater’s virtual showing of It's A Wonderful Life! The show will be streamed live at the Republic Community Center on Saturday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m. This is a FREE program, but we do ask that you RSVP by calling 732-3500 so that we know how many to expect. Seating is limited. This is a great activity for seniors to enjoy while doing so in a safe and socially distant environment.

Bring your family to the Republic Community Center for a fun family tradition. Our Gingerbread House Workshops will be held Wednesday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. We will provide all of the supplies to build your own Gingerbread House and we'll clean up the mess when you are done! Enjoy hot chocolate with a variety of toppings while working on your creation. The price for the workshop is $20 per family. Additional houses can be purchased for $10 each. This program is limited to 10 families per time slot, so register now at recdesk.republicparks.com (under Community Programs) to secure your spot!

Parents, do you need an evening without the kiddos to do some Christmas shopping or decorating? Sign them up for our Parent's Night Out program on Friday, December 11 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Art Zone will be on-site to help us create our own Christmas ornaments out of clay. We’ll serve pizza for dinner and have other holiday-themed activities. The program is available for children in Kindergarten through age 12. The cost for the program is $15 per child and registration can be completed online at recdesk.republicparks.com (under Community Programs).

Rudolph needs help finding all of the candy canes that he dropped at J.R. Martin Park! Join us for Rudolph's Candy Cane Hunt on Saturday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. This event is for toddlers ages 2 to 5. Candy canes will be hidden around the playground at the park for the kids to find. If you get lucky, you may find special candy canes and win an extra prize! Rudolph will be available for socially distant photos along with hot chocolate and other "reindeer games" for the kids. Two holiday crafting classes led by AR Workshop will be available this month. See the details about each below.
Ladies' Night - Mini Christmas Trays It's Ladies' Night at the Republic Community Center! Grab a friend and join us on Monday, December 14 to complete a Mini Christmas Tray crafting project (see examples below). The class will be led by AR Workshop. The class starts at 6:00 p.m. and costs $40 per person. Pre-registration is required and can be completed online at recdesk.republicparks.com. The class is limited to 15 people.

Mommy & Me Christmas Apron Workshop Mommies, grab your littles and join us for a Mommy & Me craft night at the Republic Community Center! AR Workshop will be on-site helping us make Christmas aprons! The class is on Tuesday, December 15 at 6:00 p.m. Mom's apron and the first child's aprons are $60. Additional children's aprons are $25 each. The children's aprons are customized with their name and they can choose between two designs (see examples below). Pre-registration is required and can be completed online at recdesk.republicparks.com. The class is limited to 10 families.

Futsal Open Gym will be held on Monday evenings through December 14. Futsal is a variation of soccer that is played indoors on a gym court with a special weighted soccer ball to limit bouncing. It is the perfect opportunity to keep perfecting your soccer skills all winter long. Invite your friends and join us for pick up play each Monday evening. Youth age 9-13 years will play from 7:15-9:00 p.m. The cost is $1 per person.

Okinawan Karate is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The next session will be held January 5 - March 4. The program is open to youth and adults ages 6+.
Okinawan Karate classes are taught by Anthony Willis. Anthony relocated to the area after a 27-year career in the United States Air Force. He has been practicing and researching martial arts for 30+ years and has several black belts, including a 6th degree black belt in Okinawan Goju Ryu. He lived in Okinawa and studied under an Okinawan instructor for just under five years, and has been teaching Goju Ryu Karate for over 20 years.

This basic tumbling class is open to toddlers (ages 2-5) and meets on Monday evenings. The next session will begin January 11 and will run through February 1. Tumbling, movement, balance and flexibility will be covered in each session. Music and props will be incorporated into the class. One parent will be required to participate in the class with their toddler. There will be a maximum of five toddlers per class. All classes will be held at the Republic Community Center Activities Building. The class is $20 per child for the full four-week session. Registration will open on December 21 and can be completed online at recdesk.republicpaks.com (under Community Programs).

Make plans now to ensure that your kids have something fun to do over Winter Break! Registration is now open for School's Out Program. The program is available for kids ages 6 (or in kindergarten) through 12. Activities are planned to ensure a fun-filled day for the children. A sack lunch and a snack are required each day. The cost of the program is $25 per child per day. Payment is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable. A minimum of 10 children must be registered 48 hours prior to each date in order to run the program. The dates available are December 23, 28, 29, 30, 31 and January 4. Registration for Winter Youth Volleyball is open through Friday, December 25. This league is available for those in 1st-6th grades. Games will begin on January 18. Registration for players and coaches is available online at recdesk.republicparks.com (under Youth Sports). Placement on a team is not guaranteed and is dependent on the number of coaches who volunteer.
