Jurassic World at the Amp on May 6

Amp Event Tonight!

Republic Parks & Recreation will host its next event at The Amp tonight, Friday, May 6th. Jurassic World will be shown on the big screen starting at 8:00 p.m. 

Inside Out will be shown on Saturday, May 21st with activities starting at 7:00 p.m. Activities will include balloon art by The Balloon Lady and a family-friendly performance by Springfield Improv. The movie will begin at 8:15 p.m.

Both events are FREE and concession items will be available to purchase.

The Amp, located within J.R. Martin Park (300 E. Hines in Republic), features permanent seating for 500+, lawn and mulch viewing areas, a 20’ x 65’ performance stage, a 15’ tall on-stage truss system, a 16’ x 10’ movie screen, and much more.  

Adult Softball

Adult Co-Ed Softball Registration Ends Today

The Republic Parks & Recreation Department will be offering a Summer Adult Co-Ed Softball league.  Team registrations will be accepted through Friday, May 6 (or until the maximum of 16 teams has been reached).  Games begin on Wednesday, May 18; all games will be played on Wednesday evenings at the Bervin White Memorial Baseball/Softball Complex located within Miller Park at 711 E. Miller Road.  The league fee is $275.00 per team.  Stop by the Republic Community Center to register!  

Summer Recreation Day Camp

Summer Recreation Day Camp

Summer Recreation Day Camp is offered during the summer months for children ages 6 (or have completed kindergarten) – 12.  Campers are given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities during the summer including gym games, various clubs, crafts, field trips, frequent visits to the Republic Aquatic Center, and more.  Past field trips have included the IMAX Theater, Incredible Pizza, Titanic Museum, Discovery Center, Sky Zone, Wild Animal Safari, Springfield Skateland, Fantastic Caverns, Village Pottery, Sunshine Lanes, and many more exciting locations! 

"Early Bird" Registration is now full. We are currently taking registrations for Week 1 (May 16-20) only and spots are limited. The Summer Recreation Day Camp runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (there will be no camp on Monday, May 30th or Monday, July 4th).  The cost for the program is $85.00 per child, per week ($10.00 discount for additional children in the family).  If your child will be attending Summer School, the fee is $40.00 per child, per week ($5.00 discount for additional children in the family) during the four weeks of Summer School only.  There are no discounted fees available for part-time.  All field trips and activities are included in the weekly rates.  Campers are required to bring a lunch and a snack to camp with them each day.

Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp

Challenger Sports’ British Youth Soccer Camp 

Challenger Sports will host their British Soccer Camp in Republic the week of June 27-30, 2016 at Garoutte Field (210 E. Hines). The camp will feature the 1,000 Touches Curriculum packed with drills and practices designed to improve individual ball control, foot skills, fakes, moves, juggling, and core techniques.

Camps are available for children ages 3-14.  Ages 3&4 will participate in the First Kicks camp from 9:00-10:00 a.m. each day; the cost is $65.00 per child. Player Development camps will be held for ages 5-7, 8-10, and 11-14. Ages 5-7 will attend from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.; ages 8-10 will attend from 12:30-2:30 p.m., and ages 11-14 will attend from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The cost for the Player Development camp is $89.00 per child. Participants also receive a camp t-shirt, soccer ball, player evaluation form, international poster, and online coaching resources. Those registered by May 13 will also receive a free replica jersey (S&H fees apply). Registration can be done online at or applications with payment can be mailed to Challenger Sports, 8263 Flint St., Lenexa, KS, 66214. Informational brochures inclusive of a registration form are available at the Republic Community Center.  A $10.00 late fee will be applied to all registrations received after June 17. Questions should be directed to Mike Parry at (913) 599-4884 x227 or
