Easter Egg Hunt 2017

Easter Egg Hunt Scheduled for Saturday, April 8

The Republic Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at J.R. Martin Park (300 E. Hines) and it will feature 10,000 eggs, games, a bounce house, a visit from the Easter Bunny, prizes, and more!  The official egg hunts will begin at 10:15 a.m. with the 0-6 year olds and 10:30 a.m. with the 7-12 year olds.  A tree planting demonstration and tree give-a-way, sponsored by Empire District Electric, will begin at 11:00 a.m.

This is a FREE event and no registration is necessary. Parking will be available at The Amp/Tennis Court Complex, Price Elementary, and Garoutte Field.  Please bring your own Easter basket and arrive early (the hunts will begin promptly at 10:15 and 10:30 a.m.).  

Moore Park Dedication

Moore Park Dedication Ceremony April 21

A dedication ceremony for Moore Park is scheduled for Friday, April 21 to honor Mrs. Connie Moore for whom the park has been named. The ceremony will be held at the park (901 N. Boston Ln.) at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Moore taught for the Republic School District at Elementary-III, now known as Lyon Elementary. During her tenure, she envisioned and established the park at the corner of Highway 174 and Boston Lane. In the summer of 2016, the Republic School District donated the land to the City of Republic to be used as a new city park.

Opening Night @ The Amp

Opening Night at The Amp

Mark your calendar for Opening Night at The Amp scheduled for Friday, April 21! The evening will feature local magician Josh Farley for a 45-minute show followed by Disney’s Aladdin on the big screen at approximately 8:30 p.m. Activities begin at 7:00 p.m. and admission is FREE!

The Amp, located within J.R. Martin Park (300 E. Hines in Republic), features permanent seating for 500+, lawn and mulch viewing areas, a 20’ x 65’ performance stage, a 15’ tall on-stage truss system, a 16’ x 10’ movie screen, and much more.

Youth Baseball, Softball & Tot-Ball Registration Ends Today

The Republic Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the Youth Baseball, Softball, and Tot-Ball leagues. Information on all available leagues can be found below:

  • 3 & 4 Year Olds: Tot-Ball (Co-Ed), Must be 3 by May 15, 2017
  • 5 & 6 Year Olds: T-Ball or 6U Coach Pitch, Age as of January 1, 2017
  • 7 & 8 Year Olds: Coach Pitch, Age as of January 1, 2017
  • 9 & 10 Year Olds: Player Pitch, Age as of January 1, 2017
  • 11 & 12 Year Olds: Player Pitch, Age as of January 1, 2017
  • 13 & 14 Year Olds: Player Pitch (Softball Only), Age as of January 1, 2017 

The team fee for Youth Baseball & Softball is $300.00 per team with a $25.00 discount for resident teams (includes nine games). The team fee for Tot-Ball is $115.00 per team with a $15.00 discount for resident teams (includes seven games). The Youth Baseball, Softball, and Tot-Ball games begin the week of May 15. All games will be played at the Bervin White Memorial Baseball/Softball Complex located at 711 E. Miller Road.

The deadline to register is today, Friday, April 7. For more information or to register your team or individual for the program, please contact (417) 732-3500.  This program will rely heavily on volunteer coaches to make it successful. 

Seasonal Job Opportunities Available

The Republic Parks & Recreation Department is hiring for a seasonal Baseball/Softball Supervisor and a Summer Recreation Day Camp Director. Details for each position can be found below. To apply, you may fill out an online application or pick up an application at the Republic Community Center at 711 E. Miller Rd.

Baseball/Softball Supervisor

  • Duties: Responsible for supervising Youth Baseball/Softball games throughout the season, maintaining control of the entire complex including coaches, players, and fans. Supervises and evaluates all ballfield employees including umpires, concession workers, and admission workers. 
  • Shifts: Monday-Friday from 4:15-9:30 p.m. (Occasional Saturdays)
  • Employment Dates: May 15 – August 4
  • Pay Range: $15.00-$17.50/Hour
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply
Summer Recreation Day Camp Director
  • Duties: Responsible for daily operations of the Summer Recreation Day Camp.  Supervises Camp Counselors, Head Counselors, and Bus Drivers. Interacts professionally and courteously with parents/guardians and the general public. 
  • Shifts: Various shifts between 6:00 a.m.-6:15 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • Employment Dates: May 1 – August 9
  • Pay Range: $10.00/Hour
  • Must be 21 years of age or older to apply

Senior Trip

Senior Trip Planned for April 25

The Republic Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Republic Senior Friendship Center to take a Senior Citizen Trip to see the Presleys’ Country Jubilee on Tuesday, April 25!  The vans will depart from the Republic Community Center at 4:45 p.m. and arrive back at the Community Center around 11:30 p.m. 

The cost for this trip is $25.00 per person. The price includes transportation and tickets to the show. We’ll stop for dinner at Cracker Barrel prior to the show; however, this is not included in the price of the trip. Registration will run through Thursday, April 20 or until the trip is full (limited to the first 22 registered participants). Registration can be done at the Republic Community Center and payment will be due at the time of registration.  Participants must be able to step into a 15-passenger van with little to no assistance.  If you need special accommodations to transport assistive equipment, please indicate this during registration.
